Born in South Tyrol, Heinz Winkler started his unique career in 1963 at the age of only 14 years as a kitchen apprentice in Bozen’s Hotel Laurin. Soon he improved his culinary skills and knowledge in famous restaurants in Germany, France, Italy and in Switzerland.

The Residenz was created from a late medieval building, which had been called the Hotel Post for centuries. Heinz Winkler purchased the premises in 1989 and rebuilt them into his modern, though tradition-conscious Residenz. Displaying great personal commitment and imprinting his personal style, the owner himself oversaw the renovation and build-out of the former Hotel Post.
